This was the first edition of Agile Coffee Talk in Chennai and the enthusiasm around it was immense. The ethusiastic crowd keep flocking in even before the scheduled time for registrations and by the time the event started the hall was packed requiring few more chairs to put inside. Similar to the previous events it was a mixed-bag of participants coming from different organizations and industries. But the earnestness to learn and explore the Agile ways to improve as an individual or team was common in all of them.
Similar to last few coffee talks, the theme of the day was “Scaling Agile: Aligning Business Value with Every Level” and the topics were planned around it.
The first session of the day was titled as “Scaling Scrum Seamlessly with Nexus“, where Agile Consultants from SolutionsIQ Mahesh Varadharajan and Arun Jayaraman teamed up to help participants understand; the methods of scaling Scrum seamlessly from one team to multiple teams in a more simplified and intuitive manner using the Nexus framework, without too many additional roles and practices or a complex approach to scaling. The session was an interactive one with a very curious audience posing different questions to the speakers.
After the end of an intense session it was time to refuel with some steaming cup of coffee and know more about the fellow agilists present in the room.
The session after the coffee break was an interesting one by Rams Parameswaran, Vice President at BNY Mellon; titled as ‘A Journey towards Offshore Agility‘ it was a first person account of an Agile transformation at scale. In this session the speaker shares the story of, one of the largest technology departments in BNY Mellon / iNautix and how it embarked on a journey towards improving flow and delivering value with a scaled transformation. It was a treat for the attendees to get a view of a real life transformation at a scaled level and that too coming from one of the architects of the transformation.
The last session of the day was a workshop on ‘Business Value Delivery Game‘, facilitated together by Siddhartha Govindaraj, Founder, Silver Stripe Software and Mahesh Varadharajan, Enterprise Agile Coach at SolutionsIQ; where the participants learnt ab0ut the effectiveness of Release Planning and the effects of Release frequency on the business. The participants were devided into teams on the basis of their expertise with equal number of members in each team. Each team was given few tasks to be achieved within a specific number of sprints. The first two teams delivering more business value were declared winners and were presented with some interesting gifts to help them in their daily Scrum ceremonies.
The day ends with retrospection and networking over a yummy lunch spread!
We really appreciate the enthusiam of the participants of Chennai and promise to bring back Agile Coffee Talk on a new date with a new theme. Also a big thanks to everyone associated with Agile Coffee Talk, for their continuous support and encouragement.
We’ll be publishing the Event Calendar 2016 soon. Till then, Good Bye!
